Delight as learners receive new school shoes

Walking barefoot to school every day to seek education to build a better tomorrow, is what prompted the office of the Emfuleni Local Municipality's executive mayor to solicit donors to assist these struggling learners. This is the story of 134 learners who are hungry for education.

These learners from eight Evaton primary and secondary Schools in Emfuleni Local Municipality, have a reason to smile after they were given brand new school shoes. Executive Mayor Greta Hlongwane and Lawrence Khekhe Education Foundation donated the shoes to those who are from poverty-stricken families.

Be smart with water- electricity meter reading

Residents of the Emfuleni Local Municipality owe R3 billion in unpaid basic services. To increase and reduce water and electricity loss and theft, the municipality is now introducing smart meters for water and electricity in the course of the year.

Emfuleni Local Municipality's executive mayor Greta Hlongwane and the municipal manager Sam Shabalala announced a public private partnership with Beijing Fuxing Xiaocheng electronic stock company in rolling out the R1 billion rand project on the 6th December 2013 at a media conference held in municipal manager's office, where the two parties signed the agreement.
