New Emfuleni Municipal Manager hits the ground running!

Yunus Chamda[04-05-2016] Veteran local government administrator and former political activist, Yunus Chamda has commenced his new role as the Municipal Manager of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). The newly-seconded Municipal Manager said he was impressed at the amount of talent and dedication in the municipality’s employ after observing from the sidelines.

“Discussions about my redeployment to the ELM began as soon as the Executive Mayor, Councillor Mahole Mofokeng, was announced as the new ELM Mayor some six months ago. Ever since then, I have been observing the way people at this municipality work and I have been amazed at the talent and dedication I have seen,” the Municipal Manager told senior ELM staff at the his first meeting held at the Mayoral Parlour on Tuesday, 3 May – his first official day at work.

Government to launch the Boiketlong Mega Project

[04-05-2016] Following two successive meetings between residents, community leaders and government officials, there is an end in sight to the two-week long protest staged by residents of Boiketlong, a township in Sebokeng in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Vaal, south of Jo’burg).

The community in the area has been protesting for housing, electricity and increased access to water. In an effort to resolve the impasse, the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Mahole Simon Mofokeng intervened and called and held a meeting between the residents, their leaders and officials from Emfuleni, Sedibeng District Municipality and the Office of the Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements (CoGTA) on Thursday, 28th April, 2016, at the Emfuleni Mayor’s Parlor.
