Support your ward development by participating in the Ward committee Elections

The Speaker of Council, Cllr Maipato Tsokolibane held a media launch on the 20th of September 2016 at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex Zone 14, Sebokeng for the upcoming Ward Committee Elections to cover all 45 wards of Emfuleni.

The Ward committee elections will unfold into two phase, the first phase is the nominations and it closes on the 14th of October 2016.


Madam speaker made call to all registered voters to participate in the process to people to serve in the ward committee, which is an advisory body to the ward councillor.

The second phase is the election phase to take place from the 24th of October until the 7th of November 2016.

Ward Committee Elections are non partisan structures which is open to all people staying in the ward communities, legislated to foster public participation process to get ordinary citizens direct inputs in the local council governance issues and service delivery.

Please exercise your civil duty to promote local participatory democracy come and collect the nomination forms at the office of the Speaker of Council, from your Ward Councillor and you are also welcome to visit one of the Emfuleni regional offices.

“The Council has increased the amount of ‘’out of pocket’’ for Ward Committee members from R300 to R350 per month, only Ward Committee members who attend the meetings and with deliverable activities of the Ward Committee will be paid” said Cllr Maipato. She also emphasised that community members should pay municipal services in order to deliver the services back to them

“As municipalities we are faced with many challenges with regard to our government mandate to make sure that the lives of our people are better and looked after” said the Speaker of Sedibeng District Council, Cllr .Melina Gomba.
