“Women you are unique” campaign is the epic event the Speaker of Emfuleni, Maipato Tsokolibane used to mark the official closing down of the women month celebrations. The event was hosted at Saul Tsotetsi on Thursday the 31st August.
The main event was about motivating and encouraging women to staying strong against adversities such as poverty, discrimination and abuse, against femicides. It was also about women taking charge of their bodies by constantly taking care of their health and well-being. Powerful testimonials were given speakers such as Monosy Motloung, a cancer survivor and radio personality, and music was rendered Nozi Radebe of “Ndazifumana” fame from Bophelong, Dineo Maha, William Mthethwa of yesteryear (Cost of living is too high fame) and Letsele.
The 09th August marks the National Women’s day celebration in remembrance of the courage and bravery that women of 1956 showed when they marched down to Pretoria to fight and voice out against “pass law” which was legislation that required African persons to carry a document on them to ‘prove’ that they were allowed to enter a ‘white area’ during the Apartheid regime).
It is a special time that women are reminded of their power or influence they can have over situations that needs change in their lives. Emfuleni municipality Speaker’s office consciously organized women’s month celebrations where different programme of events took place around Emfuleni to empower, encourage and celebrate the uniqueness of being a women.
Programme started on the 28 July with a prayer session against social ills and crime hosted in partnership with Full Gospel in Sharpeville. It was followed by the “Women in business High Tea”, where women were shared experiences and mentored each other but more specifically by those already successful in business, to find funding from GEP, SEFA and SEDA. Emfuleni Local Economic Department also took time to share advice with women on opportunities available within the municipality.
Wow, what a special month it is that Speaker of Emfuleni puts everything aside for the whole month of August and just put her focus on special women of Emfuleni to encourage and motivate them young and old and would like to thank women of Emfuleni who came in numbers to attend and make these events successful.
