Mayor Moerane in maiden IDP road-show. For the whole month of April, Executive Mayor, Councillor Gift Moerane led meetings in various community halls, engaging residents on the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for 2019/2020.
The series of public consultation meetings afforded residents opportunities to raise service delivery concerns and frustrations, which included potholes, waste collection, illegal dumping and municipal infrastructure projects.
From the Mafatsane Community Hall in Evaton Central on April 09th to the Vereeniging Banquet Hall in Vereeniging on April 25th, residents made their voices heard.
Mayor Moerane used the meetings to share progress made in intensifying service delivery in the municipality.
He was accompanied to the meetings by Members of the Mayoral Committee, Ward Councillors and the Senior Management Team (SMT) of the municipality.
Speaker of Council, Councillor Maipato Tsokolibane also attended.
All stakeholders of the municipality, including ward committees, civil society organisations, businesses formations and residents interacted with the municipality and made their contributions to the IDP.
At the meeting held at the Mafatsane Hall, resident Mamokete Mbhele told Councillor Moerane she was battling with floods in her Ward 42 home.
“If it rains, we don’t’ sleep and we have to sit on chairs because our homes are flooding. We would appreciate if the municipality could remove rubble blocking storm-water to avoid water coming into our homes,” she said.
Mayor Moerane promised residents across all wards that he would return to them for more consultative meetings.
