ELM spending R30 million to upgrade road network. Emfuleni Local Municipality is resealing 20 roads across the municipality as part of rehabilitating the road network.
In recent weeks, three contractors appointed by the municipality, Actophambili, Magic Labour and Axton Matrix have rebuilt and resealed over 12 kilometers of the municipality’s roads in different wards and residential areas.
The roads in Vanderbijlpark, Boipatong, Tshepiso, Vereeniging, Three Rivers and Sebokeng Zones 7, 3 and 14 have been completely resealed.
Opposed to patching potholes, resealing requires complete overhaul of the existing road, replacing the surface with new layers of tar.
At a total cost of R30 million, construction of most of the roads has been completed with resurfacing already done.
The Esther Mazibuko Street, a busy arterial road in Zone 3 has been resealed and resurfaced as part of the ELM roads rehabilitation project.
Municipal Manager, Mr. Dithabe Nkoane said the rehabilitation of the road infrastructure was important to all residents and businesses in the municipality.
“Work is in progress to rehabilitate our roads; this includes complete resurfacing by appointed contractors and ongoing patching of potholes by our employees in the Roads Department. This means we are working hard to provide safer roads to all road users,” he said.
Some of the artillery roads that have been rehabilitated include Clinic Road (Zone 14), Esther Mazibuko Street (Zone 3), Noble Street (Boipatong), Barrage Road (Vereeniging) and Johanna Van Der Merwe (Zone 7).
