ELM sadenned by the death of three young women at Kwa-Masiza
7 June 2011 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has noted with sadness the pain and trauma that the Qwanti family at Kwa-Masiza hostel in Sebokeng is going through following the death of their three children on Friday. The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality Councillor Greta Hlongwane has been deeply touched by the family’s unfortunate situation. The Executive Mayor has on behalf of the Council, extended her deepest condolences to the family.
As a caring Municipality, the Emfuleni Local Municipality has established a Committee which is currently overseeing the funeral preparations for the three young women. The Committee is made of two family members, Ward 17 Councillor Mthuzimele Sikukula, officials from our Social Development department, officials from the regional office of the provincial department of Social Development and our department of Communications.
This team is led by the Executive Mayor and the MMC for Social Development Councillor Nkapu Ranake. Through this Committee, the Municipality has arranged food parcels and a car that will assist the family to easily move around as they prepare for the burial. The car will be available on a daily basis until the family leaves for Qumbu in the Eastern Cape where the funeral will take place next week.
We have also engaged the local funeral undertakers for donations in relation to the transportation of the deceased and the supply of coffins. We are hoping that they will respond positively and commit themselves before the end of this week. The venue and the date of a joint memorial service will be confirmed later this week.
May their soul rest in peace
