5 February 2010 - Two more Vaal Dam sluice gates were closed today following a decrease in the water inflow into the dam. This brings the number of closed gates to ten since last week Friday. One more gate is expected to be closed tomorrow (Saturday 06/02) and there is a high possibility that another one could be closed on Sunday. The Vaal Dam is now 100-percent full.

The water inflow into the Dam is now standing at 200-thousand litres per second. The flow has decreased by 180-thousand litres per second compared to yesterday. The outflow is currently standing at 270-thousand litres per second which is 300-thousand less litres less than yesterday.

All roads have been opened except for the Golf Road at the bridge where the road crosses the Klip River. The road will remain closed until further notice.

Despite the positive developments, the Municipality’s emergency services will remain on high alert and also continue to patrol the Vaal River daily to ensure that everything is under control.
