IN an effort to streamline procurement processes for the imminent development of Sebokeng and Kopanong Hospitals, the Department of Infrastructure Development and Property Management jointly with Gauteng Treasury and Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) called upon Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in the construction sector to register on the provincial database.

The two-day all-inclusive registration process took place on 04 and 05 March in Sebokeng (outside Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex) and Vereeniging (Kopanong Hospital) respectively. The registration drive assisted prospective suppliers with the Central Supplier Database (CSD) compliance registration. Companies were aided with market access services to afford them an opportunity to fully participate in upcoming Gauteng Provincial Government projects.

IMG 6820“The idea behind today’s program is to ensure that all construction companies in Sedibeng, especially those who qualify for 30% sub-contracting are registered on the Central Supplier Database. This must happen before the department advertises any construction projects in the region,” said Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management Tasneem Motara.

The MEC said registrations were essential for ensuring that the department has a detailed list of registered SMMEs that will supply services to main projects.

“We bring the services to the ground to make sure that SMMEs are aware of the project, that they are registered and compliant with all the requirements of our tender processes. We don’t want to have a situation where SMMEs are left out of the project because of something as simple as compliance,” Motara said.

IMG 6829ELM MMC for Infrastructure Planning, Development and Asset Management (IPAM), Cllr. Khethiwe Ntombela encouraged local SMMEs to take advantage of this initiative as it offers growth opportunities for their respective businesses.

“Additional programs of this nature are still to come in Emfuleni, we are currently developing a model that is going to assist local SMMEs to meet necessary requirements to get business. The plan is to see all compliant local businesses flourish to the highest SMMEs level and start competing for big jobs with big companies,” said Ntombela.

Over a hundred (100) SMMEs from different communities in the region were registered. All companies were assisted with CSD registration, financial institutions interaction and upcoming Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) projects briefing services.

Participant Shirley Sibongile Themba, an OHS consultant from Sthandaza Services and Projects said she welcomed the registration program by government and viewed it as a business networking opportunity for local suppliers.

IMG 6859“I am happy that companies are afforded an opportunity to check whether they are compliant or not, to me that is the utmost important detail about these registrations. Coming from an OHS services company, meeting these many construction companies in the Vaal presents me with an opportunity to secure more clients for my business, all I need to do is network,” Themba said.

Interested SMMEs in the construction sector who missed out on the registration program are invited to the final registration and technical support workshop at Sebokeng Zone 14 Community Hall (Mpho Siphiwe) on Tuesday, 16th March 2021 from 10h00.
