21 September 2016 - The Gauteng Provincial Government in partnership with Emfuleni Local Municipality handed over 64 houses to residents of Sebokeng Hostel 4 Block E today.

The MMC for Human Settlement Cllr. Motshana Jan Moshoaliba and the Ward 2 councilor Cllr. Griffith Mzizi handed over the houses to the beneficiaries, most of whom were identified based on a number of special case yardsticks such as age, disability and the number of years one has been a resident at the hostel.

A 24-year old lady with a physical disability was overjoyed when she was furnished with the keys to her new house after submitting an application for it in March this year.

Ziyanda Mbangata (24), a bubbly young lady, a wheelchair user, a student and a business practitioner intern in one of the companies in Johannesburg has been living with her family in a compromising plight for all her life.

She was one of the 64 people whom were handed over houses today. She said she was happy with the house because as per MMC Motshana Moshoaliba’s commitment, the finishing touches on her house will be conventional to her disability. “I am proud to be the recipient of this house today because finally, my homeowner dreams have come true.” Mbangata said.

“We are still in the first phase of the allocations, 65 houses were also handed over before the 2016 municipal elections in Ward 17” Moshoaliba said.

Cllr Moshoaliba congratulated those who have received 64 houses today. “By far we have handed over 129 houses in Ward 2 and 17 as part of Gauteng Province’s declaration of no hostels in the province,” Moshoaliba concluded.
