MEDIA STATEMENT: Emfuleni Municipal Manager officially resigns

28 March 2017 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality confirms the departure of the Municipal Manager, Yunus Chamda effectively as at 31 March 2017. The Municipal Manager has cited ‘personal reasons’ for his resignation which follows 22 years of serving in Local Government. The Municipality wishes Mr Chamda well in his future endeavours.

In his parting message Mr Chamda conveyed his thanks and appreciation to Executive Mayor Mofokeng in particular, and to the rest of the Council and staff of Emfuleni. He wishes to emphasise that his departure is on amicable terms, and not by virtue of any break down in his working relationship with the Executive Mayor or any of the Councillors, political parties or fellow officials.

Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor proves not to be a desktop man but a true servant of the people

The Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng embarked on an unannounced programme to track progress of the current infrastructure projects which are meant to improve the lives of communities. The programme happened at the height of the Emfuleni Local Municipality Extended Mayoral Committee workshop, where the Executive Mayor aimed to witness first hand and verify the reports presented at the workshop.

The unannounced programme to crisscross the length and breadth of Emfuleni forms part of the municipality’s service delivery turn-around strategy themed “Getting the Basics Right, Our Programme for Restoration.”

Media Statement: Emfuleni Local Municipality honours top academic achievers from the Matric Class of 2016 with awards

14 February 2017 - In honoring academic excellence and improving access to higher education, Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng presented awards to students from the Matric Class of 2016.

The awards ceremony was held at the Three Rivers Lodge in Vereeniging on Thursday, on the sidelines of a six-day Extended Mayoral Committee Meeting convened by the Executive Mayor.

Meida Statement: Emfuleni re-implements water rationing measures to save water

21st January 2017 - Emfuleni Local Municipality will re-start with water rationing measures from this coming Monday, the 23rd January 2017 in an effort to save water. The municipality had actually stopped with the rationing of water in December 2016 because of number of operational factors and high demand of water during that period.

In that process, the municipality did not meet the requirements or restrictions of 15% set by the national department of Water and sanitation. Water users did not make the situation any easier for the municipality to save water, and change behaviour towards water usage.

05 January 2016 - Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng has congratulated all Grade 12 learners who passed their 2016 final examinations.

“We congratulate all students for their outstanding results and we hope they will encourage the class of 2017 to work harder and even achieve even greater results,” he said.
