Media Invite: Emfuleni Local Municipality launches Operation Futhela

09 December 2010 - The month of December accounts for a sizeable number of fatalities on the South African roads. This is attributed to consumption of alcohol and fatigue whilst driving, unroadworthy vehicles, speeding, reckless and negligent driving.

Emfuleni has been hit by a number of deaths on its roads recently. This deprives families of bread winners and in impacts negatively on the human resource need of Emfuleni.

Indigent Burial

21 September 2010 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality has noted with great concern the pain, trauma and humiliation that the Rakosa family in Sebokeng had to go through during their time of mourning. It is an unfortunate situation that the Rakosa family could not get assistance in time to avoid a situation which surely aggravated their grief.

Backlogs in refuse collection

17 September 2010 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has been experiencing serious backlogs in the refuse collection services during the past weeks. The Municipality is aware that the backlogs had an effect on the environment and the residents it serves. We also know that this might have led to some frustration to members of the communities which were affected, especially where stray dogs rip bags open and led to residents recollecting the refuse.

Illegal funeral undertakers and cemetries

16 August 2010 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality notes with great concern and disbelief the continued reports of burial violations conducted by funeral undertakers in and around Emfuleni. We want to strongly condemn with the contempt it deserves the unprecedented high number of illegal funeral undertakers and illegal cemeteries within our jurisdiction. The reports appear to be an ongoing and malicious campaign by the funeral undertakers to undermine the rights of communities and dignity of the deceased.
