Media statement: No water in Vanderbijlpark due to a vandalised valve

02 March 2016 - An unexpected water supply interruption occurred as a result of a vandalised Pressure Reduction Valve (PRV) in Rabie Street, CE 6. This had a negative impact on the provision of water supply in Vanderbijlpark’s CBD, CW and CE areas.

The damaged valve rests on a main water supply pipe that feeds water to the Vanderbijlpark reservoirs. To repair the PRV, the main supply from Rand Water had to be shut down thus resulting in the drop of water levels in the reservoirs. There was no water in a number of areas within Vanderbijlpark area.

Media statement: Two learners drown at a public swimming pool - (Sharpeville)

16 February 2016 - Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) - Two school children sadly lost their lives due to drowning at a public swimming pool in Sharpeville. During the morning hours of yesterday, 15 February 2016, the boys aged 17 and 14 from Thabo Vuyo Special School were amongst a group of other learners who visited the Emfuleni Swimming Pool. Led by their female teacher, the group entered the facilities unauthorised, unfortunately this event ended up in tragic death of two learners.

Whilst there is an agreement between ELM, Swimming South Africa and various schools including Thabo Vuyo to provide swimming lessons for learners, this programme runs only between Tuesdays and Fridays.

Media statement on disruption of Municipal Services

16 January 2016 - Emfuleni Local Municipality witnessed the unexpected disruption of municipal services caused by the protest of the Fire and Rescue workers yesterday and today (14/15 January 2016), which is unfortunate and regrettable.

The protest, which ultimately caused the interruption in the smooth provision of services, was sparked by the delay in implementing the agreement between the ELM and workers, which would have seen the municipality compensating workers the outstanding money owed due to extra hours of services rendered by them for the period of the past 5 years.
