Road Closures in the Vereeniging Area

15 August 2014 - Motorists driving within the Emfuleni Local Municipality area in the Vereeniging City are notified about roads closures of the following roads: Union Street, passing next to the Vereeniging taxi rank driving towards the corner of Victoria Street, and General Hertzog road at the bridge leading to Three Rivers. The bridge is water–logged as the result of theft to the water pump and the electricity cable which helps to drain water into the drainage system. 

This poses a serious risk to motorists driving in the area.

Emfuleni to launch vegetable farming project

06 August 2014 - As part of Emfuleni Local Municipality’s initiative to reduce poverty levels within communities in the area, the Municipality will be launching a vegetable farming project tomorrow.

This Mayoral Food Resilience Initiative will be launched by the Executive Mayor Councillor Greta Hlongwane in partnership with Red Ants Security, Relocation and Eviction Services (PTY) LTD.

Emfuleni Local Municipality to inspire change on Mandela Day

17 July 2014 - The Executive Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality Councillor Greta Hlongwane, Members of the Mayoral Committee, Speaker and the Chief Whip will lead the Municipality’s employees as they give 67 minutes of their time in support of Mandela Day this Friday.

This will be done through a series of activities/programmes planned for the Mandela Day by the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). These activities will be spread across the municipal area in an attempt to touch all corners of our communities.

Emfuleni Local Municipality to unveil Mandela Day programmes

15 July 2014 - The Executive Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality Councillor Greta Hlongwane, joined by Members of the Mayoral Committee, Speaker and the Chief Whip will unveil the Municipality’s Mandela Day programmes/events for 2014 to members of the media.

The events, which will be held under the theme “Clean South Africa/Gauteng”, include the removal of illegal dumps in Sharpeville, Bophelong, Stealpark, Tshepiso and other areas, donation of blankets at Sebokeng’s Lere La Maqheku which houses about 100 elderly citizens, issuing of title deeds to 10 families in Evaton North, launching of 240L wheelie bins which will be distributed to private households and business premises, demolition of dilapidated structures which are used for criminal activities, planting of trees and many other events/programmes.

Emfuleni Mayor launches pothole campaign programme

24 April 2014 - A road maintenance campaign to fix potholes around the Emfuleni Municipal area was launched by the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality Councillor Greta Hlongwane in Bophelong today.

The patching of potholes programme, under the theme “Repairing Potholes: Making Our Roads Safer For You”, is aimed at tackling head-on the state of decay of some of the roads in Emfuleni.

Emfuleni Mayor to hand over traffic vehicles to officers

29 April 2014 - The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Councillor Greta Hlongwane will, on Monday 05 May 2014, hand-over vehicles to the Municipality’s Traffic Department at an event to be held in Sebokeng.

The vehicles will be used by traffic officers to execute their daily duties. These vehicles are part of the new fleet that the Municipality is purchasing in different phases. They are fitted with state of the art lights and PA system. They are also equipped with on-board computers that will monitor the whereabouts of the cars as well as who is driving them.
