21 August 2017 - The municipality acknowledges that its road infrastructure is troubled many potholes, and in some cases the roads needs to be re-build because they have totally collapsed. This is because of two main reasons, the aging road networks which were not maintained over a period of time.
Secondly due to lack of financial resources to maintain them to the acceptable level. With the minimum resources at its disposal now, the municipality has appointed seven (7) contractors which has already started to work on repairing, resealing and re-establishing some roads and streets. This is done in partnership with business which are more concern with the state of the road infrastructure. Work has already started in Bedworthpark where roads were rehabilitated and is complete, and part of Three Rivers East. The municipality is racing to finish these roads resealing projects before the summer rain season starts which may have negative bearing on them.
However, the municipality continues to encourage communities to pay for all their municipal services accounts so that it is able to provide sustainable, efficient and effective services, which are not affected by cut offs, erratic waste collections, potholes and water shortages as is the case at the moment. The municipality is already overburdened by a debt from residence of Emfuleni in the tune of R5 billion. This has negatively affected the municipality to be financially sustainable and continue to operate smoothly in continuously providing basic services in line with its constitutional mandate. We urge you to pay or make arrangements to settle all your current and outstanding debt. Please contact our customer care hotline on 016 950 5109 and physically visit our customer walk in center at Ok Building in President Kruger Street Vanderbijlpark to settle your account or make arrangements or register as an indigent for free services.
