Media Release: The Executive Mayor welcomes the new Manager in his Office

Mr. Jabu Kumalo19 March 2018 - On 30 November 2017, the Emfuleni Local Council appointed the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Jacob Khawe as the new political head of the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

During the Special Mayoral Committee meeting held on 16 March 2018, Mr. Jabu Kumalo was introduced as the newly appointed Manager of the Office of the Executive Mayor.

Mr. Kumalo is a former student and youth leader in the 1980s. He served as the Secretary General of the Congress of the South Student Congress (COSAS) in 1984. He later joined COSATU as the Organizer and Para-Legal Officer from 1988 to 1994.

Following the first national democratic elections in 1994, he was appointed Chief of Staff in the Office of the late MEC Sicelo Shiceka for Local Government, Planning, Public Works and Environment. In the year 2000, he was appointed in the Office of the Municipal Manager of the Sedibeng District Municipality and subsequently worked in the Office of the Speaker of the Council. In 2006, he was then appointed as the Director of the Sedibeng District Municipality, for both the former Executive Mayors Mr. Mlungisi Hlongwane and Mr. Simon Mofokeng and later in 2009, he became Director: Facilities Management in the Sedibeng District Municipality and in 2014 he joined Transnet National Ports Authority as Manager Monitoring and Evaluation.

He will serve the Institution with a wealth of experience that is expected to transform and strengthen our municipality guided by the Constitutional mandate in implementing the key set goals, priority strategies of the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
