For any organization to flourish, effective internal and external communication is essential. The Department of Communications is not only responsible for getting the messages across the stakeholder base but also for monitoring and building a positive image for the Municipality.

The department has three units for better, quality and efficient services. The units are divided according to their specialization areas. These are:

The media liaison unit serves as a link between the municipality, media and the whole community. The responsibility of this office is to inform and educate the public and residents by facilitating communication about programs, campaigns, activities, events and other activities of the municipality. News releases are prepared, enquiries from reporters are responded to, expert sources among staff are identified and assistance with interviews and media appearances are provided.

The media office serves the municipality, the stakeholders and residents by obtaining public recognition of the achievements of the municipality. The office also serves journalists by introducing them to expert resources and interesting story ideas.

Internal & External communications unit is about building up the ideals of the municipality, setting certain guidelines that are expected to be followed, carving out strategy and goals to ensure success, keeping your employees inspired, informed and egging on all those involved in the municipality. Internal communications or external communications, contributes to the growth of the municipality, and is an integral aspect that helps the municipality to brand itself
