Functions

  • To supply the Council with the relevant Computer infrastructure to render Services
  • To Supply and maintain all computer equipment
  • To maintain the WIDE Area Network and Local Area Network
  • To insure the safekeeping of the Council's data
  • To render technical skills and support as stipulated in the SLA between Sedibeng DC and Emfuleni LC
  • To manage the Information Section of the Council
  • To plan for the expansion of the Council's computer infrastructure to help the Council to meet their objectives
  • To plan and maintain the DRP (disaster recovery plan) and Contingency Plan in event of disasters
  • To impliment Data security measures and advise council on IT policies

TECHNICAL

Technical units is responsible for all technical related issues.

  • Perform comprehensive troubleshooting down to component levels to extend the life of obsolete equipment.
  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading an efficient, secure and reliable Information Technological infrastructure (LAN/WAN) for municipal departments.
  • Supporting all users within the municipality through attending to assigned calls and providing timely and effective technical assistance to municipal departments.
  • Redirecting problems to appropriate resource.
  • Identifying and escalating priority issues per client/user specifications.
  • Requesting ng parts and supplies; maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Participating in emergency on-call duty on a rotational basis
  • To ensure a continued delivery of service delivery to the communities of Emfuleni local Municipality.

NETWORK

The Network unit is responsible for all network related issues.

  • Establishing network specifications by conferring with users; analysing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols;
  • Establishing network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
  • Maintaining network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Securing network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
  • Preparing users by designing and conducting training programs, providing references and support.
  • Upgrading network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • To ensure a continued service delivery to the communities of ELM.

SYSTEMS

The Systems unit is responsible for all Systems related issues

  • Checking servers.
  • Physically verify the volume sizes of the data in the servers to ensure continuous uptime on servers. 

  • Create new users on the network to ensure that all the users are able to access the network.

  • Check for updates on the anti-virus software for the servers to ensure that the servers are virus-free.

  • Extract and copy files to the servers.

  • Restoring of data on the network to help users.

  • Documenting standardized network procedures to ensure that IT staff has a manual to refer from.

  • Check the E-mail for rejected files; if necessary log the calls to rectify  the problems. This ensures that our e-mail server is not filled by rejected files.
