“Disaster management” means a continuous and integrated multi-sectoral multi-disciplinary process of planning and implementation of measures aimed at
- Preventing or reducing the risk of disasters;
- Mitigating the severity or consequences of disasters;
- Emergency preparedness;
- A rapid and effective response to disasters; and
- Post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation;
And "Disaster" classified in terms of Section 1 as meaning a progressive or sudden, widespread or localised, natural or human-caused occurrence that causes or threatens to cause.
Disaster Management Plan Level 1 is been approved by the Council. The report to generate Level Plan two (2) is been submitted to the Council. The disaster Management Plan aligns with IDP. This is in accordance with Disaster Management Act No. 57 of 2002 as well as National Disaster Management Framework of 2005.
