Councillor Jan Maduna stood for unity

The late Cllr Jan Maduna 15 December 2009 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality is mourning the death of one its Councilors Jan Maduna. Councillor Maduna passed away on Wednesday December 9. He was a Councillor in Ward 28 Extension 15 in Evaton West.

The Speaker of Emfuleni Local Municipality Gretha Hlongwane says Councillor Maduna served the community with pride, dignity and commitment. Hlongwane says his spirit will linger in the hearts of many community members, the movement and government.

His involvement in politics started in 1989 when he joined the Student Movement COSAS. He later joined the ANC in the 1990’s. He became the leader of the ANC Sebokeng East Branch in 1997 and managed to build one of the strongest branches in Gauteng enjoying a massive ANC membership. In 2000 he was elected to lead the Ward 28 Jeff Mokoro ANC Branch.

In 2006, he became a Ward Councilor of Ward 28. Speaker Hlongwane says this is where Councillor Maduna united the ANC, SANCO and the masses.

According to the Emfuleni Municipality’s Speaker’s Office, a memorial service for Councilor Jan Maduna will be held on Thursday the 17th of December 2009 at the Rivers of Living Waters Church in Evaton at 14h00. The funeral service will be held on Saturday the 19th of December 2009.
