Emfuleni Municipality launches Operation Futhela

9 December 2009 - The month of December accounts for a sizeable number of fatalities on the South African roads. This is attributed to consumption of alcohol and fatigue whilst driving, unroadworthy vehicles, speeding, reckless and negligent driving.

Emfuleni has been hit by a number of deaths on its roads. This deprives families of bread winners and in impacts negatively on the human resource need of Emfuleni.

To curb this scourge, the Traffic Division of the Emfuleni Local Municipality will be embarking on a public safety drive in the month of December. For its impact and effectiveness, the operation will be dubbed “Operation Futhela”. This is in line with the Traffic Division’s strategic objectives of creating a healthy, secure and safer environment.

This Project is intended to enforce zero tolerance towards alcohol related and road worthy offences in an effort to bring the accident rate down. Its objective is to consolidate the initiatives of the national and provincial governments to curb fatalities on the South African Roads.
