Wednesday, 02 December 2020 - This media statement seeks to dispel inaccurate media reports that the municipality has spent R 893 948,000 in four months for the payment of two administrators’ salaries. These reports are unfortunate and misleading. The Municipal Manager (MM), Mr. Lucky Leseane and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Mr. Andile Dyakala, hereby dismiss these reports, and categorically state that all the administrators deployed to the municipality by the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Lebogang Maile, are paid by the Gauteng Provincial Government.

The municipality continues to receive support from provincial government, with MEC Maile recently announcing he would be deploying three more administrators to reinforce the administration currently working in ELM. These efforts, and many others, are part of the provincial government’s intervention in ELM, as part of Section 139 (1) (a) and (b) of the Constitution.
