28 November 2012 - The Municipal Demarcation Board on 07 November 2012 issued a media statement indicating that it is considering a proposal for a merger of the Emfuleni Local Municipality and Midvaal Local Municipality.

This was followed by the issuing of a notice in terms of section 26 of the Local Government: Municipal Demarcation Act, 1998 (Act No 27 of 1998). The act requires that the Demarcation Board publish the said notice in the media to allow for public participation based on the proposal to it by various stakeholders.

The proposed amalgamation of these two Municipalities that form part of the Sedibeng District Municipality will see a Category A Municipality being established in the Area by 2016. However, there are processes to be followed before a final decision on the amalgamation can be taken. One of those processes is the Public Participation Process.

The aim of these consultative meetings is to receive inputs, comments, concerns and recommendations on the proposed amalgamation of the Emfuleni Local Municipality and other Municipalities into a single Category A Municipality. The office of the Speaker of Emfuleni Local Municipality has been tasked with ensuring that adequate public opinions are accommodated in this process.

Members of the media are invited to attend and give coverage to these meetings which will take place as follows:

• Region 1 – Greater Evaton, 29 November 2012 at Mafatsane Hall @ 15:00
• Region 2 – Greater Sebokeng, 03 December 2012 at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex @ 15:00
• Region 3 – Vereeniging/Boitshepiville, 04 December 2012 at Vereeniging City Hall @ 15:00
• Region 4 – Vanderbjlpark/Bophelong, 05 December 2012 at Bophelong Hall @15:00
