Vaal River flood warning
29 January 2010 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality’s Water Rescue team is on standby following the overflowing of the Vaal River. The River flow is currently standing at two million litres per second. A number of roads around Three Rivers have been closed due to flooding. The most affected road is the Vosloo Park road.
Other roads are the Brandmuller road, the Golf road, especially the road crosses over the Klip River, and the General Hertzog road near the Euro Spar.
The only accessible road at this stage is the Houtkop road, commonly known as the Potchestroom/Vereeniging road.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality would like to urge community members to avoid the affected areas as they are extremely dangerous. Motorists are advised not to under- estimate the strength of the water in the flooded areas but rather take alternative routes.
It must be emphasized that the situation is not life threatening at this stage. We want to assure our communities that our joint operation committee will continue to be on high alert to provide the necessary services should the need arise. Members of the community are advised to report any incident to the Sedibeng Call Centre on 10177. We also appeal to residents around the lower situated establishments not to panic but to be on high alert.
