Media Statement: Power supply restored to most of the affected areas except for parts of CW5 and CW6

19 March 2019 - Power has been restored to most of the areas that were plunged into darkness following an explosion at the Town Substation in Vanderbijlpark last week. Electrical technicians restored power to Bonanne, Stephanopark, Bophelong Extension 1 to 18, CW1 to 4, parts of NW7 and CW5.

Although power has been restored to all of the above-mentioned areas, parts of CW5 and all of CW6 are still affected by the outage. This is due to the 6 panels which supply the two areas that were damaged beyond repair by the fire. The municipality is in the process of buying the 6 replacement panels and is doing so with the urgency it requires.

Restoring power to the remaining parts of CW5 and CW6 would regrettably take a bit longer due to the ongoing procurement processes and the availability of the stock replacement panels.

At this moment, the repair and power restoration time for CW5 and CW6 is unknown however, the municipality is working tirelessly to restore power supply to all of the affected areas. Updates will be given to affected residents and businesses as and when there are new developments.

The municipality apologize for any inconvenience caused.
