29 May 2019 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality together with a number of stakeholders will be hosting the Sanitation Month celebration workshop at the New Life Center Ministry in Evaton West this Friday the 31st May 2019. The Sanitation Month is celebrated every year during the month of May and serves as a medium to focus attention on the value of sanitation.

Held under the theme “Sanitation is Dignity”, this year’s celebration is aimed at improving people’s behavior towards good hygienic ways of waste handling, waste disposal and the correct use of sanitation facilities. Poor sanitation habits often lead to the origin of potentially serious diseases and as a result, community members will be educated on hygiene practices such as the washing of hands which has proven to be one of the most effective ways to prevent contracting and spreading diseases.

In an attempt to heighten public education about sanitation, Metsi-a-Lekoa, SANDF, GDARD, DWS, Rand Water and Eskom will be presenting on a number of topics on the day. Topics to be covered range from the upgrading of local pump stations to the effects of dumping waste illegally and the electricity winter awareness.

Councilor Nomsa Mooi of Ward 26 will be attending the event to welcome and address the community on the overall purpose of the celebration.The municipality invites all members of the media to attend and give coverage for the Sanitation Month celebration to be held as follows:
