Municipality to relocate employees at OK Building in a week

11 June 2019 - The municipality has noted the abandonment of work stations by its employees housed at the OK building in Vanderbijlpark due to unsafe working conditions. For a prolonged period, employees working in the building have faced several challenges including sewer spillages which led to bad odor in the basement and offices in the two floors.

The building, which is located on President Kruger Street in the Vanderbijlpark CBD, houses key municipal offices including Revenue, Communications and Organizations Development Departments.

Earlier this morning, (Tuesday, 11 June 2019), employees, the Municipal Manager Dithabe Nkoane and Executive Mayor Councillor Gift Moerane were locked in a meeting to find a lasting solution to the challenges facing our employees at the OK Building. The meeting resolved that affected employees should be relocated and a task team was set up primarily to:

  • Investigate the feasibility of relocation of affected municipal staffers
  • To find alternative work spaces for affected employees by looking into the availability of existing municipal buildings and offices
  • That the Revenue and Customer Care Center will also be relocated, but must remain within the Vanderbijlpark CBD to allow easy access to ratepayers

It envisaged the process of relocating staff will take approximately a week to complete and the municipality is pleading for patience while this matter is given the urgent attention it deserves. MM Nkoane and Mayor Moerane hereby apologize to all affected employees and residents during this difficult time. For the second time this year, the Department of Labour issued a prohibition notice on Monday (10 June 2019), effectively shutting down the building. Residents are urged to use alternative pay points, including over the counter payments at Standard Bank, direct EFT payments into the municipality’s account, Easy Pay service and municipal offices in Zone 10 Sebokeng.
