REPORT INCIDENTS OF VANDALISM, ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS AND METER-TEMPERING

Vandalism 5

Vandalism, theft and damage of electricity infrastructure, illegal connections, ghost-vending and meter-tempering are major contributing factors to current power outages experienced in Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) areas of supply.

Vandalism and theft of municipal infrastructure reverse service delivery gains of the municipality by redirecting millions in revenue which could have been invested into other critical service delivery initiatives.

Vandalism 1

The municipality is calling for cooperation from all residents to immediately report all suspicious activities such as vandalism of infrastructure, illegal connections, meter-tempering and suspected ghost-vending by calling: 016 950 5066/67/5154/5258.

Waste Management Teams concerned by widespread illegal dumping in the municipality

IMG 9006The Environmental Management and Planning Department of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) is clearing mushrooming illegal dumping sites across the municipality. The department is also working towards eradicating backlogs in the collection of household waste.

The advent of Covid-19 and shortage of compactor trucks are some of the contributing factors to backlogs in waste management in the municipality. The shortage of resources has also made it difficult for the municipality to communicate and follow a regular schedule, often collecting waste on a bi-weekly basis, where possible.
IMG 9025However, the Gauteng Provincial Government has committed R52m for the provision of waste compactor trucks, a move aimed at improving the collection of household waste in ELM.
