Vaal River Carnival

Since its inception in 2002, the Vaal River Carnival (VRC) has grown in stature. The Carnival has successfully brought people of every color, race, age, and background together to celebrate the Vaal’s beauty, history, and richness. The partnership between the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), the local community, NGOs, Parastatals, and other Non-governmental organizations made the success possible. All parties came together to market and profile Sedibeng as one of the best tourism and investment destinations.
Aimed at ensuring that tourists and investors experience the Vaal River, historic sites, state-of-the-art hotels, conference facilities, and other business and leisure facilities, the return of the Carnival forms part of local economic growth. The partnership between the municipality and product/event owners has brought the popular VRC program back to life to elevate it back to its glory days.
